In 2011, community access to autism-specific advice, and centralised intake for autism spectrum disorder referrals was a focus point of the Developmental and Autism Service Coordination Project. Since this time, autism-related referrals have been managed by a single clinician with specific expertise in this area, available for caregivers, professionals and referrers, 2 days a week.

In 2020, our new Stepped Care Team was established. This is a team of specialist clinicians that now manage all referrals to the hospital where developmental concerns, including autism concerns, are identified. They are available Monday to Friday for referral advice.
